Quietly

Quietly

While you were asking why
I was sitting or standing or being
quiet, I was quietly closing
doors, silently shutting
them, and the ones I had closed
I made sure were locked.

Very nice. It speaks to me of both narrow-mindedness (for some reason - this may be totally off-base) and of a reflective, quiet disposition that carefully makes sure all the details of life are in place while the rest of the world asks questions, never stopping to do reflect on themselves, but only upon why others are doing whatever they are doing. I can relate to that. Very interesting. Am I making any sense? :) I hope you are enjoying Augustine's "Confessions."

Interesting readings, and yes, you are making sense. To further unravel the poem, I would look at the relationship between the speaker and the person being spoken to ("you").

Confessions has taken a backseat to Flannery O'Connor, but I did make some headway into it, however, before the end of the term, and I am eager to delve into it and finish it.

Ah hah! NOW who's the bright light? LOL! I must examine this again in light of our discussion...
